Nymphs
Nymphs are one of the rarely seen branches of lesser fae. They care nothing for court life and instead live out in the forests and country sides of The Dreaming were it is forever green. They are consider one of the true Wyldfae. Nymphs often find themselves the frequent target of satyrs.
Of all the fey, Nymphs are the only ones who seem to appear human. They have a grace and beauty about them not found in most humans, but they never have to mess with glamour to hide among them. Their magic lies with the earth and rivers and they are often found hiding in nature in both The Dreaming and the mortal world.
Until the other fey who use the faerie mounds to come and go, nymphs tend to slip in and out of the veil between the world must easier. They can only do this in the woods or in the river. When a nymph goes between two trees and disappears she has slipped back into The Dreaming and can reappear moments later between another two threes, having slipped back in.
They have however taken up a purpose in this world though. As humans began to spread more and more they decided to take care of the area around their homes to preserve the natural beauty around them. Some have even begun to travel the world finding areas or nature and helping them thrive.
Magic:
Their magic comes from the earth, to nurture it and help it. They can make plants grow or die, plant seeds they create and watch them grow in an instant. They can carve out rivers and valleys, direct the water and even move the earth under their feet.
The bigger the task the more of them are needed, because they can combine their magic to greater effect.
They are heavily affected by pollution and the changing planet, as the land dies around they become sick and die, they are connected to the earth so much that when she hurts their magic withers.
Society:
They tend to be mostly female and usually live as one large group, everyone taking care of everyone else. It is a myth that Nymphs only bare female children. Male children always take after whatever race the father was. These male children are other left with others of the father's race or left with humans usually at hospitals or churches where the Nymphs have learnt over the centuries that babies are taken care of there.
The older a Nymph the more status she holds in the community. Though big decisions are usually discussed between the group of those considered ‘elder’. Sometimes this can take years for something to be decided.
Up to the age of about five children are cared for by their mothers then are brought up by the whole community while her mother will usually leave for a year or so to find a suitable male for her next child.
The child will learn the ways of the Nymphs, what they are how they operate and what their purpose in life is, until she is seventeen. At that age she will join her mother again for one year to learn everything they know about the Autumn world. On her eighteen birthday she is sent out to live among the humans to find a suitable mate and learn how the Autumn world operates first hand. She is not expected to return until pregnant.
A suitable male would be an untainted (without supernatural affinity) human male as they are considered the blue prints to healthy female children, as they think their genes stronger than the humans.
Some nymphs who want superior more magical children have been known to choose sidhe fae as well. Some even go back to the same male two or three times for them to father their children.
At some point during their lives they have to stop breeding and wait for the eldest child to reach eighteen before spending thirty years or more on their true purpose. Caring for the forest and the rivers and all the natural things in the world.
Types:
There are three types of nymphs, each dealing with a different part of nature.
Land Nymphs: Land nymphs are the nymphs of gloves, pastures, meadows, mountain valleys, glens, and grottoes.
Wood Nymphs: Wood nymphs are the nymphs of trees and are also sometimes called Dryads. They are found in the woods and forests and it's not uncommon to see a wood nymph turn into a certain kind of tree.
Water Nymphs: The Nymphs of rivers, springs, lakes, marshes, and oceans. They are never far from their chosen body of water.
