Genies

Genies were created almost a millennia ago. The magic it took to create them needed countless deaths and violent destruction. But the rewards reaped by those who had made created them was beyond their imagining. A creature created to serve them with any desire they could wish for. Those first men and women who discovered the spell of the genie went on to rule people and amass great wealth. However, each genie knew they were bound to their enchanted item and so were slaves.

It took many hundreds of years before each genie began to explore their powers. Prank magic and small manipulations could be done by the genie without the need of a wish. But when a wish was made, that was when their true powers were exposed. They could change reality and the consequences never came back to them. However, it didn’t’t take long before each genie began to punish their masters for their wicked greed. All seemed to make wishes to fulfil their own vanity or lusts, so wherever possible a wish was misconstrued and often the wishers family or loved ones suffered for their own indulgences. Often any who finds a genie ends up regretting it and finally makes a wish to nullify all that have gone before hand. For example a wish that could be twisted may be something like ‘I wish I had his body!’ and then genie delivers said idle dead and presents the body to their master. Or ‘I wish to be rich beyond my wildest dreams!’ Magically money appears but it was from a bank robbery and they find themselves on the run from the law.

It is possible for a genie to be freed. But this can only be done with a wish. Once a genie is free however, they become an average human with no abilities and age normally and have all the weaknesses of any human. Though rarely a master makes a wish to free them. There is another way for a genie to free themselves. If there is any chance to twist a wish made so they can trick their master in to becoming a genie themselves, then they can swap places and thus free themselves. Because of the general treatment genies receive and the fact they usually only witness selfishness and power lust most have become very scheming and mischievous with such a strong desire to free themselves and punish wicked masters. So most genies are the original ancients however there are a few that are newer and are there as a result of an act of kindness that went wrong because of their genie being cruel. Or are there because they were tricked in to it. Perhaps their lust for power resulted in them.

However, because of the awesome power and the fact that anyone could get their hands on to a genie there was a movement to destroy all enchanted object containing genies. This was the only way to stop them. A genie cannot be killed but if the object they inhabit is destroyed then they are forever trapped in a dimension unable to return or be freed.

A genie appears human, in fact they can look like anyone. Any size, shape, gender or appearance. When outside their object they can eat, sleep, get hurt and act entirely human. However they cannot die. If wounded to a point where it would be fatal they merely return to their objects.

Abilities: Prank magic, basically little acts of mischief or disruption. When in the process of making a wish happen they control a lot of power. Unfortunately this is not their own and they are unable to tap in to this source of magic without the words of their master. They can have any number of wishes, it is not always three. Usually it ranges from three wishes to nine, but there is chance for it to be less or more. Though this is rare. There is only one rule regarding wishes, no wishing for more wishes. Otherwise anything else is allowed. Genies do not age at all, they are not really immortal but a lot of their time is spent inside an enchanted object, their vessel that they do not get the chance to age. They are able to regenerate once inside their vessels which also helps them to remain youthful.

Drawbacks: A genie is constantly connected to a single object. This isn’t the source of their powers but it is where they must reside. The object can be anything from a necklace, to a lamp, a bottle, a carpet coin etc. They objects cannot be activated by simply rubbing it. Otherwise there would constantly be genies popping up. Sometimes certain words need to be said whilst the object is used. Blood spilled upon it. Breath, fire, cold. Something specific to the genie and their object Then once that object is activated by anyone they are constantly at the whim of their new master’s wishes(but only to their wishes). Once awakened by activating the object a genie can exist out of it for 72 hours before they must return. They are not completely independent from their master but they can go some distance from them to get a taste of freedom. When resting they have no concept of the passage of time. They have to call their Master or Mistress just that. They cannot refer to them by their actual names. A genie can only be freed from a vessel by their Master.
